Check Now! In this rainy season, what areas are at risk of what diseases?

It's raining again. Of course, many areas will face full-blown flooding, but no matter how severe it is, life must go on. The cold and damp weather allows many kinds of germs to spread more easily. Even if you're in good health, there's still a chance you might get sick. Today, Muang Thai Life Assurance has some good information to share about the common diseases during the rainy season in each region that parents and siblings should be especially careful about. What diseases are there? Let's take a look.

One of the headache-inducing diseases during the rainy season and in the central region, which is considered one of the risk areas with a high number of dengue fever patients, occurs in the rainy season with heavy rain and standing water in many areas, which is suitable for the breeding of Aedes mosquitoes, carriers of dengue fever.

The most common symptoms are high fever for 2-5 days, along with headache, body aches, loss of appetite, vomiting, and possibly coughing without mucus. There may be red spots on the body, bleeding gums, and after the fever subsides, drowsiness may occur. There is a risk of shock, circulatory failure, kidney failure, liver failure, and death.

Therefore, if anyone has the above symptoms, it is recommended to see a doctor quickly for diagnosis and treatment, and be careful not to get bitten by mosquitoes, including keeping the mosquito breeding grounds around the house clean to reduce the risk.

Recently, in many areas, it’s been raining heavily, and the weather keeps changing—sometimes hot, sometimes cold, sometimes damp—which can unknowingly put parents and siblings at risk of catching the flu, especially children who are at higher risk.

Flu symptoms are similar to those of the common cold, including high fever, headache, muscle aches, fatigue, coughing, or sore throat. Children under 5 years old with weakened immune systems may develop complications that can be life-threatening. Therefore, patients should take extra care of themselves, or if symptoms do not improve, see a doctor for treatment.

Preventive measures to reduce the risk of flu during the rainy season include washing hands frequently, not sharing personal items with others, avoiding crowded places, or wearing a mask if necessary. Importantly, getting an annual flu vaccination is a must that should not be overlooked.

Heavy rain adds moisture to all areas, allowing many kinds of mushrooms to grow well, especially wild mushrooms in the northeastern region. These include both edible and poisonous mushrooms, which look similar, leading many people to confuse and use poisonous mushrooms in cooking, resulting in death. Most fatal cases involve toxic mushrooms like the poisonous

Amanita or the stone mushroom.

  • This type of mushroom resembles the edible white Amanita, but the difference is that the poisonous mushroom has a tall stem, a slightly raised center cap, and a rather strong odor.

Yellow slime mushroom

  • Most people often confuse it with edible ginger mushrooms. The poisonous variety is covered with slime and has a darker cap, making it difficult to distinguish by sight.

Chinese hat mushroom

  • This mushroom resembles a small termite mushroom, but the distinguishing feature is that the poisonous mushroom has a thin, easily breakable cap, a loose stem, and does not have a tough texture like the termite mushroom, nor does it have false roots like the termite mushroom.

After eating poisonous mushrooms, symptoms include nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, or diarrhea. It is recommended to take the patient to the hospital immediately, as severe poisonous mushrooms can cause nausea and vomiting on the first day, followed by serious conditions such as liver and kidney failure, leading to death.

When it rains heavily, be careful not to get sick. The rainy season often brings mosquito-borne diseases to the southern region. The most common disease that Southerners face every year is Chikungunya or mosquito-borne joint pain fever, which is caused by the Chikungunya virus, with the Asian tiger mosquito being the carrier.

People who get this disease will have high fever, bone and joint pain, headache, eye socket pain, and rash. Importantly, there is no specific treatment for this disease; only symptomatic treatment is available.

Because there is no specific treatment for Chikungunya, we must protect ourselves from mosquito bites and regularly clean the house, not leaving trash or stagnant water that could be breeding grounds for various mosquitoes. During this rainy season, don't forget to take care of yourself and avoid mosquito bites.

As you can see, during the rainy season, each region must be well-prepared to deal with diseases that come with the rain, as some can be severe and lead to death. Therefore, you should always take good care of your health, eat hot food, use a personal spoon, and wash your hands every time. Get enough sleep, eat a balanced diet, and exercise regularly. By doing so, you can protect yourself from these diseases no matter where you are.
