Working during the day, partying at night. Living a life like this may put you at risk of getting sick. Especially young people with hundreds of duties like us, we have to take care of ourselves because our daily lives put us at risk of getting serious diseases like NCDs easily. The younger we are, the higher the risk if we do not change our behavior.
Current lifestyles can have negative effects on health, such as eating unhealthy food, not getting enough sleep because of watching series, or working so hard that you do not have time to rest. These cause higher risk of having NCDs. Today, Muang Thai Life Assurance will take you to get to know NCDs, groups of diseases, behaviors that are at risk, and how to take care of yourself.
As mentioned, young people like us have to be careful because NCDs can occur at any age and can accumulate as a silent threat to the body. NCDs or non-communicable diseases are a group of chronic non-communicable diseases. To put it simply, they are not diseases caused by any germs, but are diseases caused by our daily habits, such as eating unhealthy, salty, or sweet foods, working hard and not getting enough rest, etc.
NCDs are diseases that develop slowly and accumulate symptoms continuously. When symptoms appear, they tend to become chronic. Examples of NCDs are as follows.
- Cardiovascular diseases such as hypertension and coronary artery disease
- Cerebrovascular disease
- Diabetes
- Cancers
- Chronic respiratory diseases such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, emphysema
- Central obesity

Currently, numbers of patients with NCDs have been increasing continuously and the patients are getting younger. The initial risk factor that is clearly seen is the weight of Thais in that the numbers of overweight people are increasing. This causes risk factors that lead to NCDs.
In Thailand, approximately 320,000 people die from NCDs per year, an average of 37 people per hour. The number one cause is cerebrovascular disease, accounting for 4.59% or approximately 28,000 people, following by ischemic heart disease, chronic obstructive respiratory disease, diabetes, and hypertension. The main causes are eating sweet, fatty, and salty foods, drinking alcohol, smoking, and not exercising. These behaviors increase the likelihood of death. Most of them are working-age people. So, if you work hard and get little rest, you must be careful!
