What is Difference Between MRI and CT Scan?

about MRI, you might think that MRI and CT scan are similar; however, there are differences as follows.

  • CT scan uses radiation and takes around 10 – 15 minutes. It diagnoses diseases of bones, lungs, internal organ injury, tumor, etc. However, contrast media is required to enhance image quality. Some patients might be allergic to contrast media and it may be toxic to kidney, especially old persons and patients with kidney disease.
  • MRI uses powerful magnet which better shows details of soft tissue and abnormality than CT scan. Each MRI takes around 30 – 90 minutes and it can examine all internal organs. However, MRI is not suitable for patients with medical implants or metal implants because they have to be in huge magnetic field. Thus, patients must notify officers before getting MRI.
