‘Red Thread’ is a Chinese myth that one of our pinkies has invisible Red Thread connected to a pinky of our soulmate. No matter how far we are apart, Red Thread will bring us together with lasting love.
During Tang dynasty, there is a god of love who is an old man with red thread called “Old Man Under the Moon” or “Yue Lao”. He controls the red thread and marriages based on belief of Hanzu. He puts the red thread on fingers of destined couples. Once reaching proper time, they will eventually get married regardless of difficulties. It is destiny with the red thread. So, Yue Lao has been worshipped until present. He is a spiritual anchor of single persons who want to meet soulmates.
Red Thread and Where to Pray?
Nowadays, the belief in the red thread is very popular reflecting through sacred places where people like to worship. To respond to the faith that has been passed down for a long time, if you want to be successful in love relationship, you should visit Yue Lao statue at Longshan Temple in Taipei, Taiwan. And we have instructions for you.
- Light incense sticks at the seven incense burners in front of Yue Lao shrine.
- Tell your name – surname, date of birth, address and desired characteristics of soulmate.
- Ask for the red thread to meet soulmate by throwing the Jiaobei 3 times and one block must land flat-side up and the other down for 3 times.
- Pick 1 red thread and walk around the incense burner 3 times.
- Then, go to the shrine and tell your name – surname, date of birth, address and desired characteristics of soulmate again.
- Keep the red thread in your pocket until meeting your desired soulmate.
You can pray to Yue Lao at other temples too such as Wong Tai Sin Temple in Hong Kong, or Leng Noei Yi Temple in Bangkok, etc. Not only just sacred places, people believe that having red thread amulet will bring you love too.
Red Thread Prayer
Yue Lao is in top 5 popular gods in Hong Kong, especially among teenagers. Any genders can pray to the god because of gender equality, not only male-female relationship. It depends on you. You can tie the red thread to the god’s servant statue that have gender as you wish such as a lesbian can tie the red thread to the god’s female servant statue after making a wish from Yue Lao.
The tip is bringing the ring finger of each hand and the thumb together, and then bring both hands together. Then, interlock the fingers. After that, pin the red thread to the index and middle fingers of both hands before making prayers.
“Om Chandra Sasiprabha Namaha Namo Taiim Pusak Mo Ho Sak” and pray to “Yue Lao” that “My name is………… I pray to Yue Lao, the god of love and marriage who grants prosperity and lasting love”
Then, make a wish for your love.

I pray to Yue Lao to grant me the red thread to quickly find a partner within … (time period)…

If you want to have the red thread, you do not need to fly to Hong Kong or Taiwan. You can visit Yue Lao statue at Leng Noei Yi Temple in Bangkok.
